Rhodes Old town is the biggest inhabited medieval town in Europe. More than 4.000 people are still living inside. The Medieval Town of Rhodes is listed in the World Heritage Sites List of UNESCO with cultural sites with exceptional value and it is protected for the benefit of all Humanity.
Mandraki port is the place where once stood the famous Colossus of Rhodes – one of the seven wonders of the Ancient world. The Colossus was a big statue of the god of the sun – Helios and it stood for 56 years when an earthquake destroyed it. Near is situated also the Church of the Annunciation which is the biggest Orthodox church in the town with very beautiful handmade paintings on the walls and impressive chandeliers.
Both places provide gorgeous views and great photo opportunities – the Northern point of the island where the Aegean sea and Mediterranean sea are meeting each other and the panoramic view of the city from the Monthe Smith Hill.
Here are situated the Temple of Appolo, the Ancient stadium and Amphitheatre.
On our way to Lindos, we can also include a stop to a pottery factory where you will be able to see how beautiful ceramics are made. Rhodes has a long history of pottery going back many centuries at least to the time of the ancient cities. Replicas of designs produced in those times are still been manufactured today together with new modern designs in a younger generation. Vivid colors, especially blue, feature strongly as do certain motifs which are uniquely Rodian, the pomegranate flower and the stylized deer.
Before reaching Lindos you can marvel at an amazing panoramic view of the village which captures visitors in a stunning way.
The St. Paul’s Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island with a stunning view.
A unique monument of preservation, listed in the Unesco world heritage list and under the protection of the Archaeological Society. Wonderful combination of the blue sky and sea and the white color of the traditional houses. The Acropolis in Lindos is the second most popular Acropolis in Greece after the Parthenon in Athens.
Filerimos Hill is approximately 16km away from the city of Rhodes. Once it was the citadel of the ancient town of Ialysos. You will be able to see the 2 monasteries which are situated there and the 18m high cross with a gorgeous panoramic view of the West Coast.
The Butterfly Valley is a natural reserve, unique of its kind. You can enjoy a peaceful walk and admire the nature and the butterflies. Your driver will wait for you at the other side of the park. We recommend this stop only for the period from mid of June till the mid of September when the valley is full of butterflies.
Ancient Kamiros was one of the first three cities on the island. With the foundation of the City of Rhodes in 408 BC, Kamiros started to decline. Nowadays it is a very important archaeological site, as the ancient village is preserved in excellent condition. Important findings from the area are part of the collections of the British Museum and the Louvre.
Private Tour
With an age range of late 20s to late 80s (no teens, but no option for this in choices) I wanted a tour that would take us to the places we wanted to go (including Butterfly Valley and Lindos) without too much walking and having to wait for/be waited for by other people. Rhodes Taxi Tours quickly sent suggestions, and adapted the trip based on my feedback, at 2 days notice! The trip itself was fantastic and our driver was so informative and helpful, including taking us to a lovely non-touristy restaurant with a sea view, so even in the heat we all had a great time. Definitely worth the money to get driven around with air-conditioning!
Wonderful Rhodes Tours – Would Go Again
Nikos, our guide was friendly and very informative. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed meeting local people who shared their island we us. The east coast tour had beautiful scenery and we learned about the culture and customs of the area. We requested a second day tour because we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves the first day. We visited the town of Kykkou with its beautiful painted doors as well as the church of the Pangia Tsambika, the miracle monastery that only a native guide would know. Nikos took us to the airport on our last day and was extremely helpful throughout our visit to Rhodes.
Second time as great as the first!
We booked Rhodes taxi tours for a second time, had a fantastic customized tour for four, outstanding driver, went to unique spots and loved our day. Professional, on time, every moment from booking until drop off was perfect. Thank you again!!!
